Biggest Adventure Yet
Friday, July 17, 2026
Please be warned, this adventure is not for the faint of heart. It will require a considerable amount of time and travel. This is a remote mountain wedding in the heart of the San Juan Mountains in beautiful Colorado. Both the ceremony and the reception will be held at high elevations, those with health conditions should discuss this trip with their doctors.
The Ceremony
The wedding ceremony will be held Friday at noon in gorgeous American Basin outside of Lake City, Colorado. The ceremony site is fully outdoors on public land, at 11,200ft in Elevation. It can be accessed by mostly any vehicle with high clearance but four wheel drive is recommended.
The guest attire will be casual. Since this is by no means a traditional wedding ceremony, we encourage our guests to dress comfortably. Please wear hiking and/or flat shoes as this is a non-developed area (not a lot of flat ground, lots of rocks, dirt, etc.)
Those of you who are required to dress up, you know who you are 😉

By Colorado standards, this is not a difficult mountain road but to fairly warn everyone, the first 1.5 miles on County Road 30 is a high shelf road. This is a narrow dirt road, with no guardrails and does have a significant drop. If you do not do well with heights, we recommend you opt to be a passenger.
Due to the narrow nature of the shelf road, we are limited to 10 vehicles per group, so we intend to organize a caravan to go up to the ceremony site. Opportunity for ride share will most likely be available.
Despite only being 15 miles from the intended rendezvous point, it is still an hour drive to the site so we will be meeting at 8:30 AM. GPS directions from the rendezvous point to the site can be found HERE. You will want to be prepared with restroom breaks snacks and water for the ride. Light refreshments will be served at the ceremony.
OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) and Jeep rentals are available at several locations in Lake City and can be driven from rental location to ceremony site. If this is something you plan to do, we would recommend renting these in advance, as July is Lake City’s busiest season. Please see the OHV/Jeep Rental section for more details.

Travel & Lodging
Many of our guests will be traveling from out of state. If you are one of those guests, please see below what type of travel is to be expected. As you can see below, there is considerable distance between airports and Lake City, so we encourage people to fly in at least a day before to ensure you make it to Lake City in time. Also, by doing so, you will allow more time for your body to acclimate to higher elevations.
Lake City is the closest City to the Ceremony and Reception sites. It is also a vacation destination. There are many rentals available via Airbnb, VRBO, and local rentals. There are also local cabin rentals, lodges, inns. What you will not find here are traditional big-name hotels. We encourage you to book these in advance! As most of Lake City operates on a seasonal schedule so they are very busy in July as they are snowed in for most of the winter months.
Depending on which airport you are coming from, Gunnison is the last stop that has a full grocery store and dispensary. So, we encourage guests to stop and pick up whatever they may need before they get to Lake City and their rentals. It is about an hour from Gunnison to Lake City. There are restaurants, a liquor store, gas station, and a small market with some groceries located in Lake City. Please see additional maps and information provided regarding what Lake City has to offer.

**It is not required to rent a side by side or Jeep to get to the ceremony site. Most people can make it up there in a 2WD vehicle with high clearance. It is encouraged because you can go beyond the ceremony site and really get the full experience of the Alpine Loop and if you are daring enough, Engineers Pass. Additionally, if you are lodging in Lake City you can use your side by side on most of their roads around town. **
Stuff to Know
Vacationing at high elevation is a unique experience. The best way to avoid altitude sickness is to stay hydrated! Drinking and eating at altitude helps your body acclimate.
We know this is not a traditional wedding by any means, and we understand if you are unable to join us due to time, travel, and financial constraints. As we said before this is going to be an ADVENTURE! We hope you will use our wedding to take an epic Colorado vacation. Lake City is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado with so many things to do, so we hope that all of you attending will take advantage of that and plan your own adventures in the area over the weekend following the wedding.
Lastly, we are not setting up a registry, as the best gift you can give is your presence. 😊
